At the HIMSS21 (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) conference, we sat down with 9 of the industry's front-runners in leveraging health data. These are companies and people who are leveraging healthcare data to do amazing things in the industry.

There was one thing in common.

Whether it's increasing patient engagement, preventing provider burn-out, or saving lives through intervention they have one thing in common: accessing and transforming the data available to them.

Here's 9 ways that you can leverage your own data with these thought leader insights.

1. Create better outcomes for patients by getting insights from your own data.

We spoke with Jean Drouin, CEO of Clarify Health Solutions about their big data and advanced analytics platform that empowers providers, health plans, and life sciences companies to deliver better care through actionable insights.

By linking clinical, claims, prescription, lab, and social determinants of health data across over 300 million individual patient health records and leveraging industry-leading statistical modeling and machine learning, they are able to deliver precise insights into performance, cost, quality and outcomes.

2. Utilize diagnostic tools to improve patient care and avoid EHR burnout.

In order to make a correct diagnosis, trust needs to be established between a doctor and a patient. Learn more about a new diagnostic tool in the pain management space that can completely change the conversation with patients.

We sit with Quality Care Metrics, CEO JJ Richa and Founder/CMO/CVO David Lanzkowsky, MD, FASA to learn more about their Deep Empathy™ assessment tool.

3. Use your infusion pump medication data to prevent harm and reduce waste.

Your clinicians don't belong in Excel and Tableau. Remove the responsibility of being a data clerk by looking at companies that specialize in decision-making with data.

Speaking with Sam Wilson, CTO and Co-founder of Bainbridge Health, we discuss how they advise hospitals on the best way to move forward by collecting, aggregating, and analyzing infusion pump data.

4. Create clinically meaningful improvement for at-risk hypertensive or diabetic patients.

Do you have a strategy to address patient situations before they escalate? By hyper-focusing on your at-risk patients, you can intervene at the right time, if you have the right data.

Our interview with Hiren Doshi, CEO of Brilliant Care, speaks with us on how personalized nurse care coordinators, high-touch care coordination, and advanced remote technologies can create significant change in your population management strategy.

5. Bring care to those who need it, wherever they are, with telehealth.

Elevate physical practices to the digital space with a telehealth solution that isn't just teleconferencing. If you don't have the right patient engagement tools, when you add telehealth, you've added one more thing to complicate your experience.

In talking with J.D. McFarland, Solutions Architect at Mend, it's clear that tech-driven efficiency is going to differentiate the companies that are very successful versus the ones that just survive.

6. Rethink the billing process in a way that increases patient satisfaction.

Your process may not be reaching your patients in the way they want to be communicated with. Our conversation with Joe Bhaimia, Vice President of Enterprise Sales and Channel Partnerships at Inbox Health, focuses on the revenue cycle and how to avoid ballooning patient responsibilities.

Focus on caring for patients rather than resolving billing issues and chasing overdue payments. Rethink your billing process to enhance the patient experience.

7. Reduce burden on the practice with "digital workers" through RPA (Robotic Process Automation).

Discover how to decrease processing times by 70% by introducing your organization to RPA. This efficiceny in automating manual grunt work can lead to cost savings and higher employee satisfaction.

Openbots enables people to reduce the manual effort in a cost-efficient manner through their zero-license pricing model. We sit with Chief Strategy Officer, Ali Chaudhry, on the benefits of automating repetitive tasks.

8. Consider your EHR's flexibility to increase provider efficiency.

In this interview with Dan Guidebeck, the Strategic Partnership Manager from DrChrono, we learn how a flexible EHR can increase efficiency in a provider. From the perspective of an EHR that is committed to adapting to the workflows of practices, we dive into the patient and provider experience.

Leveraging multiple technologies can become complicated without the right platform, so we discuss technology adaptability for future-facing healthcare compliance flexibility.

9. Don't build everything - take advantage of solutions others have made.

The pandemic has caused growing pains along everyone's digital transformation journey. It's amplified some growing pains into mission-critical pains. It may be tempting to jump straight into execution and build technology internally. The industry currently has tons of great resources that you should be taking advantage of to incorporate into your plan.

In this interview with David Steele, Vice President, Performance Analytics & Outcomes of Stryker, we talk through a company's digital transformation in the wake of COVID-19.

We hope you enjoyed the first run of our interview series! Stay tuned for more news from the world of healthcare data as we interview more industry leaders.
