By virtue of sheer volume, oncology trials can set the stage for overall clinical trial innovation. Moreover, oncology as a therapeutic area has seen the closest interplay between clinical trial data and real-world data, from the creation of external control arms created exclusively with real-world data, to long-term follow-up registries, to pragmatic clinical trials.

Every year, more and more patient data comes online. Technological advances and the development of new analytics solutions make previously inaccessible data increasingly accessible. Meanwhile, exploding numbers of new patient and consumer-facing tools introduce novel data types.

As healthcare innovation accelerates, a fundamental responsibility of our industry remains the ethical stewardship of patient privacy. In addition, as the industry drives the design and implementation of new data solutions and technologies, we are responsible for doing so in a way that successfully maximizes patient benefit.

The United States’ healthcare system is one of the most technically advanced in the world, yet it struggles to answer even simple questions about COVID-19 due to the remarkable fragmentation if its health data. This panel will highlight examples of effective data sharing in the wake of the pandemic as well as the myriad missed opportunities for collaboration.
