From September 8–11, Datavant hosted its first annual Future of Healthcare Hackathon. Over 200 attendees spent the weekend developing innovative solutions to improve the future of healthcare. This week, we are excited to announce the various winners of the Hackathon.

Since moving to the U.S., Edward Gent has been struck by the severity of the American opioid crisis. Bringing his broad awareness of comorbidities between different types of addiction, he aimed to leverage current approaches to cell phone addiction as a means to treat more serious and sinister opioid addictions.

Tiffani Snider — Tiffani is a retired Marine Sergant and mental health professional specializing in Veteran trauma, LBGTQ+ equality and bridging the gap in Veteran Affair services in underserved population. Tiffani works in partnerships with Veteran owned businesses across the US to raise awareness around Veteran suicide prevention tactics.

Count Me In aims to put the power of health data back in the hands of the people. The app allows people to choose what data they have access to, who can use that data, and how much they should be reimbursed for having that data. Count Me In is positioned in contrast to the current state of healthcare, where data can be a form currency in the healthcare market.

Leon Ho joined Datavant in 2019 and has been twice promoted from Individual Contributor to Engineering Manager. Below, Leon reflects on the constantly evolving nature of the Engineering team at Datavant, and how this dynamism has directly supported his goals for personal and professional growth.

Hackathons are an integral part of the ongoing growth of any technology company, as they create an opportunity for teams to self-organize for a fixed period of time and tackle a challenging business problem. A hackathon embodies the ideals of experimentation, speed over perfection, and of course, getting things done.
