Title: Access Granted: What’s Next for Patient Right of Access and Information Blocking Enforcement
About this Session: Patient access to health information in the designated record set is entering a new era of enforcement and innovation. In the wake of mounting patient complaints, the HHS Office for Civil Rights has cracked down on HIPAA right of access violations and the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy/Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT and Office of Inspector General have announced a renewed effort to enforce the prohibition on information blocking. At the same time, federal policy initiatives are forging digital pathways for patients to access and use their data—the CMS Health Technology Ecosystem interoperability framework envisions a connected landscape where patients easily access and share health data.
This session will blend recent policy updates with real-world examples to explain the current state of patient access and equip health information professionals with practical strategies for compliance. Attendees will learn how to navigate overlapping regulatory frameworks and emerge as champions of patient access.
